The Legend of Bob Wire is a book that is very eye catching and very animated. Through text and pictures, the story is told with the emotion that is intended. The onomatopoeia used throughout the duration of the book will engage children and make the text more exciting.
Bob Wire is a character from the West and throughout the story you can practically hear the southern accent while envisioning the Wild Wild West. It brings much of the heroism that men in the Wild West were given when they fixed things or ran the bad guys out of town. Bob Wire is a character that saves the day time after time. Bob Wire is so cool and heroic that he actually rides a lightning bolt around instead of a horse as is displayed in many other books about like in the West. The Legend of Bob Wire uses Bob as a way to teach children a lesson – while self-assurance is good, too much can make you unapproachable and disliked. Although Bob does some wondrous things throughout the book, even Bob seems to get a bit cocky which results in his demise.
Bob Wire is portrayed as a black shadow-like person with no face or features other than he looks like a cowboy (he has the hat, boots, and spurs). This is important to mention because it is showing that Sam Skinner wants the child to know that this does not apply to just one person. He wants the children to put themselves in Bob’s shoes and realize that what happens to Bob can happen to anyone if they are not careful. This is part of the lessons that Sam Skinner is offering to the children through this story.
This book allows the imagination to run a little wild as they hear Bob Wire’s story while also learning some very important and relevant life lessons. The Legend of Bob Wire is a great book to read to your kids or in a classroom to stop kids from developing an ego that will draw other kids away from them!
